1. What made you decide to have WLS surgery?
I was overweight obviously, unfit and unhealthy. I had previously had a lap band which failed, and was told it is not working and I should get it out due to be in there for so long. I made an appointment to get it out, and then decided to get the sleeve after researching the success of this.

2. What was your weight prior to your WLS, and... What’s the goal?
I was 127 kgs, at 158 cms. My surgeon doesn't believe in goal weights, but I wanted to get to 100 kgs, then wanted to hit double figures, hit 99kg, then decided 85kgs was achievable. I am currently 87 kgs, but need to to get to 80kgs to have some further surgery.

3. Did you get to the weight you wanted?
I have not got there yet, i am 7 kgs away from it

4. How do you feel now that you have had the surgery?
I feel amazing, no medications for blood pressure required. I can exercise more for longer.

5. Were there any problems along the way?
None related to the sleeve.

6. Would you do it again now that you know what you know?
Absolutely wish I hadn't waited so long.

7. What are some of the inspiring things you can think of that you have noticed along the way?
I can do so many more activities that I would never done before because I physically couldn't or I was worried about what people would say to me.

8. Did you have some happy unexpected surprises?

9. What advice do you have for anyone preparing for surgery?
It is hard work leading up to the surgery and for the first couple of months with the food restrictions, but 6 months out you wont regret it. Be prepared for the mind games, make sure you have a lot of emotional and psychological support. make sure that your surgeon has a good dietitian and psychologist as part of the treatment.

10. What is the one very best thing that has resulted from your surgery? What has been the hardest part of your journey?
Being healthy, being to participate in more activities. The mind games your head plays on you. I have lost 40kgs and my eyes still see the big person.
