1. What made you decide to have wls surgery?
During the first Covid lockdown in 2020 I found myself eating alot more than usual and mostly the wrong things (burgers, massive steaks, lots of sweet foods and alcohol) A few months later I was on the longer putting my shoes on an it was a real struggle to do up the laces and that's when I decided enough was enough!! I jad thought about having wls for many years as my husband had a sleeve 8 years prior with great success.
2. What was your weight prior to your WLS, and... What’s the goal?
My start weight was 135kgs and my goal is 70-75 kgs
3. Did you get to the weight you wanted?
I'm currently still not at goal but sitting at 78kgs so only 3 odd kgs off from my goal.
4. How do you feel now that you have had the surgery?
I feel great. I no longer get out of bed in the morning and sit on the edge willing myself to stand up knowing I'll have sore feet. Now I have no pain in my feet or knees and painting my toenails is just something I can do now without any thought about how I can actually reach.
5. Were there any problems along the way?
I've been really lucky and have had no issues along the way...occasionally I have had some mild dumping but I know what triggers it so just have to avoid those foods.
6. Would you do it again now that you know what you know?
Oh most definitely. And I'll always have the thought of I should have done it sooner.
7. What are some of the inspiring things you can think of that you have noticed along the way?
The encouragement from friends along the way. I have also had 3 friends get wls after seeing what changes I have been through.
8. Did you have some happy unexpected surprises?
Being able to walk into a clothing store knowing for the first time since my early teens I can fit the clothing they sell....and that I'm actually on the smaller side of thier sizing. Having so much room sitting on an aircraft..not sitting and having my thighs resting on the person next to me
9. What advice do you have for anyone preparing for surgery?
Be in the right mindset...pre op i found to be quite hard and wasn't really prepared for how much of a struggle it was...I was fine post op as I knew what to expect as the dietician spoke quite a few times about the different stages. Sip water all the time Chew your food well and eat slowly Keep up the protein
10. What is the one very best thing that has resulted from your surgery? What has been the hardest part of your journey?
How I've inspired other friends to take charge of their health and do something to help them lose weight. The hardest part I have found is enjoying particular foods that I love and just wanting one more bite but knowing I'll have regrets if I do
